Math Cats

I know that this is math, but as you know Math and Science run hand in hand. I thought that you might also like to have a few math resources. This website is really fun for kids. There is a lot of fun links for the kids to look at. The one thing that I thought was really neat about this site was that math crafts section. I have never thought of crafts when thinking about crafts. That has never entered my mind! This link shows you different crafts that the kids can make! I thought it was really cool! Check it out!!!

WEL lesson plan for solar system

I thought that I would attach this WEL lesson plan that a couple of other people and I put together in Internet Tools and Resources class. We have the procedure and websites that the children use, along with a rubric. Let me know what you think.

Comets website

Here is a website that you can see a comet moving and where it will be on a specific day. (The future is included). Just press play forward or backward to watch an animation. This is really cool! (just click on the title of this post)

Comets

I just wanted to share a cute experiment that my student teacher had put together on comets this past week. She had used candy (which the children always love) to demonstrate comets. The children were given a piece of construction paper and they drew the sun on it. Next they drew a cluster of rocks just to the left of the sun. She started with nerds as being the beginning stage. Next, as the comet moved closer to the sun it was surrounded by gas or a small marshmallow. The children pushed the nerd inside the marshmallow. Then, as it moved even closer to the sun it began to get a tail. To demonstrate this the children attached cotton candy to the marshmallow using a dot of icing. As it moved farther away from the sun the children ate part of the tail. (you know they hated this!) Then it started to break apart in the order it was formed. The children would eat each part to show this. This was a lot of fun, and entertaining. Let me know if you want more information on this!

Moon Phases

Right now we are studying the solar system, but at the present moment just the moon. We have talked about the phases of the moon, and they can actually tell me when the moon is waxing and waning. I don't even remember learning this in school! I was blown away that they took to this lesson so fast. They have been engrossed in language like rotating, revolving, and orbiting. I was so surprised that they learned these vocabulary words so fast! Anyway, here is a website that has moon facts and the phases of the moon. Enjoy!

Science Website for kids

This site is really neat! It has tabs for you to click on that is for any age group. It goes from preschool, elementary, middle and high school kids. Once you click on one of these tabs, it gives you a list of educational, age appropriate sites for the children. I really like this because it gives you a list of sites all in one place! This can really be helpful when you are trying to find a specific activity.

Internet 4 the classroom

I was looking for any kind of resource that I could find to help with my 4th grade science classes. I was doing a google search and came across this site. There are things on this site that is not for 4th grade, so everyone should check it out! There may be things listed that could be another grade level. I found that the sites that I looked at were GREAT! Please look and click on some of the sites, I think that you will have a great time!
